Getting Started

Welcome to the new EZ Child Support. This guide walks you through creating your very first case. It only takes a moment to get started.

1. Open the Cases page

From the main navigation menu on the far left side of the screen, click the Cases menu item. That takes you to the Cases home screen, where all of your firm's cases are listed. Located in the top right is a button called New Case. Click it to begin creating a new case.

2. Fill in the case details

Clicking New Case brings up the dialog shown below. It asks for just four pieces of required information to seed the new case:

Internal Number — your firm's own reference number for the case.

Case Number — the court's official case number.

Court — the type of court hearing the case (Circuit, District, Family, or Juvenile).

County — the Alabama county of jurisdiction. Start typing and the field suggests matching counties.

3. Create the case

The checkbox labeled Open case for editing after creation is checked by default. Leave it checked and clicking Create Case takes you straight to the Case Detail screen, ready to add the parties and their financial details. Uncheck it and you'll return to the Cases home screen instead, where your new case appears in the list.

4. Get to know the Case Detail screen

The Case Detail screen is where you'll spend most of your time. Here's a quick tour of the key areas, matching the numbered markers in the image below:

Case navigation — switch between the four areas of a case: Case Detail, Plaintiff, Defendant, and Children.

Case details — the high-level information about the case at a glance.

Request Review — ask another user to review the case.

Forms — select and generate the six Alabama child support forms.

Case notes — add notes to keep a record on the case.

What's next

With the case created, the next steps are entering the plaintiff and defendant, their children, and the financial details — and then generating the six Alabama child support forms. Those are covered in their own help topics.
